Frequently Asked Questions
I hear a lot of terminology when it comes to seniors living. What does “retirement residence” mean?
Quality retirement residences provide a place for seniors to live a life free of normal concerns, such as cooking, shopping and cleaning. They also offer services that make life more engaging, fulfilling and manageable among an active community of other retirees.
What services are provided at a Pacific Arbour residence?
Our residences provide seniors with daily meals and weekly housekeeping, transportation for appointments, laundry facilities, fitness classes and wellness programs, 24-hour security, business centre with computers, on-site library, TV room and games area, and much more.
As well, we plan weekly excursions to a variety of venues and events. As the proud sponsor of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s Tea and Trumpets series, we provide residents with complimentary access and transportation to these concerts.
I still want my independence. Would I still live in my own place?
Yes. You will be provided with a suite that’s your home—decorated with your furnishings and to your taste. Pacific Arbour residences have a variety of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and bachelor options. Each suite has a kitchenette.
Could I still do what I want in a retirement residence?
Absolutely. Our residences are designed for those who are independent, and want the freedom to do what they want. We encourage seniors to participate in activities that they find rewarding.
I’m nearing 80 years old. When should I move into a retirement residence?
There is no particular age that suggests when you should move to a retirement residence. That said, such a decision is better made before events force the matter. As well, a move may relieve you of the stress of running your household. Research shows that living in a retirement residence can improve the overall physical and emotional health of seniors.
Can I still cook my own meals if I move to a retirement residence?
Each suite is provided with a sink, cooktop, microwave oven and refrigerator with freezer. You can cook if you wish. However, nutritious meals, prepared fresh daily and served in our elegant dining room, are included with your monthly fees. You also have access to our community kitchen when you want to cook or bake.
What if my out-of-town guests want to stay? Is there a visitor’s suite they can use?
Yes. Your guests may use one of the guest suites available to families and friends—at a cost lower than nearby hotel accommodations. Our dining room can also accommodate guests, or you can book a family occasion in our private dining room.
